Too often we find that "Making it" in the entertainment industry isn't what we thought it was. The road to success being a lot more convoluted than we anticipated. We pack our bags, leave our families and friends behind and come to the big city with dreams of being a "Success"! Living on the Stage in front of screaming fans, traveling all over the world, meeting our idols, but most importantly paying our bills by getting "BOOKED, BOOKED and BOOKED"! - Princess MBanuzue
Now, I may be a tad bit biased in making this post, because I have some awesome friends!!! Read it for yourself below:
The owner of Beyond The Steps, Princess Mbanuzue, is a native of Charlotte, NC! Princess has been in the industry for about 5 years and her credits include Jason Derulo, Tyler Perry, NeYo, August Alsina, Tamar Braxton, T-pain, B.O.B, Cee-Lo, Yemi Alade, The Game, Fox hit TV show Empire, and many more.
Princess Mbanuzue grew up in a strict Nigerian household where the art of dance was heavily prevalent but not looked at as a potential profession or career path. With everyone in her family studying or in the field of medicine, law, or accounting, she never let anyone know of her passion to dance. Although education was very important to her she always dreamed of gracing the stage with some of her favorite artist. Princess obtained her Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for business studies with a double concentration in Marketing and Entrepreneurship. She started working on her craft as a cheerleader in her youth. Princess started a dance team on her campus, danced at NCA&T as well as the local radio station.
Upon graduation, she moved to Atlanta wanting to invest her last dime into becoming a professional dancer. A year later, with faith, prayer and preparation, persistence she booked her first gig by sneaking into a private audition for B.o.B without agency representation. She was the only dancer chosen and she began traveling the world doing what is passionate about. She was taken under the wings of choreographers that worked and trained her such as Jamaica Craft, Aakomon Jones, Sean Bankhead, Tiffany Burgess, Jeremy Strong, Codie Wiggins, Kennis Marquis, Kiki Ely, Brandon Jones and several others. She has continued to build her resume and expand her career by working, touring and sharing the stage with artist such as Jason Derulo, B.o.B, CeeLo Green, Tamar Braxton, ASAP Ferg, T.I., August Alsina, NeYo, Jussie Smollet and many more. She has traveled the world from North Carolina to Europe, Atlanta to Malaysia, Los Angeles to China, and traveling to 5 of the 7 continents. With training and an extended amount of performance experience in HIP-HOP, and JAZZ-FUNK, CHEERLEADING and AFRICAN, she is driven to inspire and work with as many artist, choreographers, producers, directors, and talented individuals as she can her hands on!
After years of working, Princess discovered there was a huge gap in the education of talented individuals during their journey in the entertainment industry. Therefore, she created Beyond the Steps! She created this company in order to reach back to people like her that have a dream and a passion but don't know exactly where to start or how to get noticed in this industry. She has traveled the world dancing, modeling, choreographing, learning the industry and building lasting relationships with experts in the entertainment business. Because of these relationships, Beyond the Steps has tremendous support from managers, creative directors and the teams of Usher, Ciara, NeYo, Iggy Azalea, Tyler Perry, and others.
The spectrum of her work has ranged from the most tenured professional to the novice performer. Princess wants to help entertainers and dancers take their talents beyond the steps. She's taking everything one step at a time but her ultimate goal is to Educate. Motivate and Inspire.
Kudos to Princess, and every other woman making power moves!!!
